The village sits on a hill above the River Flitt and down the lane from The Oddfellows Arms is a medieval motte, Conger Hill.

Old Wentworth House dates from 1700 and is built of chequer brick and of its seven bays the three centre ones lie slightly back. Its doorway has fluted pilasters and there is a top parapet.

Folklore tells that a culinary witch lives beneath the mound and where pancakes can be heard sizzling on Shrove Tuesday.

A curiosity in the churchyard is the tombstone to Joyce Fell, which states that she died on the 31st April 1853.
