Although a market town Tiverton has been a base for textiles since the 13th century and before that back to the 9th century and there are still some reminders of prehistoric earthworks on Exeter Hill.
Coggans Well in Fore Street still supplies the town with fresh clear water.
The Church of St George is an 18th century Classical building with a spectacular porch and south aisle dating from 1517 and the organ dates from the 17th century.
