The spectacular setting for the legendary castle of King Arthur is the wild and windswept Cornish coast. Clinging precariously to the edge of the cliff face are the extensive ruins of a medieval castle built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall, younger brother of Henry III. Despite extensive excavations since the 1930\'s and a mass of picturesque legend, Tintagel is still an enigma, its history full of gaps and the nature of its earlier occupation quite uncertain.
