URPoint Details
The name of the village is derived from Saxon times and means ‘famous tumulus’ or ‘assembly hill’
Sir Stephen Soame (1544-1619) was Lord Mayor of London in 1598 and he built Little Thurlow Hall, which unfortunately burnt down. The Hall was rebuilt in 1849 and in the church there are many memorials of the family.
There are many 17th century cottages in Little Thurlow and the manor house is Georgian.
Great Thurlow has a restored mill.
