Car park; toilets; shop and picnic area. Ring the bell and the custodian will come and ferry you over.

This massive tower situated on an island in the River Dee, was built by Archibald the Grim in the late 14th century and was later the stronghold of the Black Douglas’s.

Tradition has it that James II used ‘Mons Meg’ against it in 1455.

The Covenanters destroyed the interior in 1640.

The gardens are noted for their daffodils and rhododendrons.
