St Michael & All Angel’s Church, (Churches Conservation Trust), sits on the northern edge of the county, this church stands in the grounds of Thornton House.
Built mostly in the 15th century of rough lime stone, with an embattled west tower, it lost its chancel in 1780 and the east window was built into the new wall formed under the chancel arch. Box pews, two decker pulpit and squires pew were retained, but its real treasures are the 15th century alabaster effigies to John Barton and his wife and brasses to Robert Ingylton (d1472) and his granddaughter.
