Open April to end September daily, except Monday & Friday (open Good Friday and Bank Holiday Mondays but closed Tuesday following Bank Holiday). Grounds: 12.30pm-5.30pm, House: closed until mid-1998. Grounds only open October 12.30pm-5.30pm. Admission charge. Light refreshments and teas March-October; dogs allowed in car park only. Disabled car park. Garden: the herbaceous garden, lawns and lake are all relatively close to car park, and can be fully enjoyed. Toilets next to tearoom in Old Brew House. Tearoom has easy level access; the North front is best for wheelchair users; thick handled cutlery available. A splendid Tudor mansion with diaper brickwork, dating back to the time of Henry VIII. It was built by William 1st Lord Sandys, in the early 16th century, and extensively altered in the mid-17th century, when John Webb added the earliest classical portico to a country house in England. Within the house there is a fascinating Tudor Chapel with fine Renaissance stained glass,
