URPoint Details
Small attractive country town with a recorded history dating back to times before the Domesday Book. The town has prospered from the cutlery industry, and has some fine medieval buildings including the 15th century Guildhall.
Other landmarks include the church with its 181 feet high tower and John Webb's windmill.
Rows of Suffolk pink Almshouses with white gabling and pretty windows, giving the appearance of a gingerbread house. Some are thatched, others have slate roofing.
Horham Hall to the southwest, is a gracious Tudor mansion with a remarkably large window in the Great Hall.
The composer Gustav Holst lived here from 1914 to 1926 and where he composed part of 'The Planets'.
