Telford , England

URPoint Details

The town takes its name from the Scottish engineer Thomas Telford who was the county’s Surveyor who designed many of the bridges and buildings.

At the south-west corner of the town, the River Severn rushes through a limestone gorge and it was on its banks in 1709 that Abraham Darby discovered how to smelt iron using coke instead of charcoal.
