Overlooking the Firth of Tay was once known as Ferry Port on Craig when the ferry service to Broughty Ferry on the other side was in operation.
The church has a 17th century tower dated 1794.
Scotscraig a famous mansion to the southwest below Hare Law has an archway dated 1697.
Southeast of the town is Tents Moor with its forestry plantation of Corsican pine and on the western fringe is Morton Loch an important breeding ground and resting place for migrating birds around which is an area of 47 acres declared a National Reserve for the study of wildfowl.
