A pleasant town surrounded by agricultural land and woods including to the north Delamere Forest with 4000 acres of dense trees and with Hatch Mere and Oak Mere providing glimpses of water through the trees.
The remains of the 13th century castle sits on top of a steep hill.
The Church of St Helen is medieval and rebuilt in the 19th century, but has some lovely 17th and 18th century effigies of the Done and Crewe families
