An ancient town lying in the middle of the Howe of Cromar where herds of Aberdeen Angus, British Friesian, Highland and Galloway pedigree cattle and valuable flocks of sheep are bought and sold.
To the northeast stands the House of Cromar renamed Alastrean House and donated to the Royal Air Force by the late Lady MacRobert in memory of her three sons who gave their lives during the Second World War.
The ruins of Corse Castle dates from 1581 and lie to the northeast and to the southeast are the remains of Coull Castle on a rocky knoll near the church and near the stone circle of Tomnaverie which date from the Bronze Age.
