Tamworth

Tamworth , England

URPoint Details

The Saxons had a settlement here in the 8th century then the Normans built a castle but Tamworth still retains some of its medieval charm.
The Town Hall dates from 1701, and the almshouses date from 1678-93 but were rebuilt and are the work of Thomas Guy, associated with Guy’s Hospital in London.

The church is in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles with an unique double spiral staircase. There are some fine windows by Burne-Jones and Ford Madox Brown.
