URPoint Details

Bishop Henry de Gower built his mortified manor house here, but all that remains from many turbulent years are a large tower and some domestic buildings.

Shipbuilding began here in 1306 and in the 18th century the docks were developed for exporting coal, copper and iron ore.

During the Second World War, bombing took a heavy toll on Swansea, and today there are some beautiful parks, green areas and modern buildings.

At Oystermouth nearby are the ruins of a 13th century castle where you can see the hall, main apartments and chapel.

The view from the top of Town Hill stands at 571ft and extends to the coast of Somerset and Devon in fine weather.
