URPoint Details
The history of this charming thriving market town lying on the northern edge of Breckland heaths and Thetford Forest is very interesting. Legend has it that the 'Pedlar of Swaffham' dreamed that if he went to London, he would find treasure. On his travels to London, he met a man who told him that if he went to a village called Swaffham, he would find treasure buried beneath a certain tree. The pedlar returned home, dug under the tree and found his fortune. The village sign is dedicated to him.
There are some fine Georgian houses including the School House, the Headmaster's House and the Assembly Rooms. The Methodist Church dates from the early 19th century and the Shire Hall from 1839.
