The earliest known owner was the Tudor statesman and diplomat Sir Ralph Sadlier, and during its chequered history has functioned as a school from the mid-17th century until late Victorian times, a Church institute, and offices for social welfare organisations.
The house is early 16th century red-brick H-plan substantially remodelled around 1700 and divided into two around 1750, and re-united in 1904.
The Tudor mullioned and transomed windows with four 16th century fireplaces, 2 with painted decoration oak panelling, including rare 16th century linenfold Jacobean staircase and good balustraded early 18th century staircase.
