Please note that due to the historic nature of the site, the basement of the North Mill cannot be accessed with a wheelchair. The nearest toilets are at Lea Green and Shipley Country park.
The brick and stone building is the North Mill, which was built in 1804 and is one of the first fireproof mills. The imposing red brick East Mill was built later, in 1912. The bridge was built in 1795 to link the mills on either side of the road. Loopholes can be seen which were provided to fire on possible rioters. The impressive weir and floodgates were built to control the river in 1797.
