URPoint Details
St James's Church (Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust). An attractive hillside setting and the great yew tree in the churchyard provide the perfect backdrop for this church and its medieval rectory.
Strong architectural features include the 14th century tower and spire, and the 15th century screen and highly decorated arches.
The south transept houses a fine stained glass window showing two souls entering heaven accompanied by Prudence, Piety, Charity, and a knight fighting a flaming demon. A memorial to Christopher Wren's sister Anne Brunsell, dated 1667, can be seen on the north wall. This black slab was though to have been designed by Grinling Gibbons.
