Family home of the Dukes of Wellington since 1817 when the house was presented to the Iron Duke by a grateful nation for defeating Napoleon after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Wellington made Stratfield Saye larger and more comfortable. The grounds too are to be enjoyed while much of the history of the Iron Duke and his campaigns is told in the Wellington Exhibition, featuring the Great Duke's funeral carriage.
