One of the supreme creations of the Georgian era. Vanbrugh, Kent and Gibbs adorned the first, formal layout with many buildings in the 1730s Kent designed the Elysian Fields in a more naturalistic style, one of the earliest examples of the reaction against formality leading to the evolution of the landscape garden. Miraculously, this beautiful garden survives its sheer scale must make it Britain's largest work of art. The House (not NT) has been owned and occupied by Stowe School since 1923. The State Rooms and Marble Hall may be visited and the view of the Gardens from the South Portico should not be missed.
