Stott Park Bobbin Mill, (EH), Finisthwaithe, ½m north, nr Ulverston. Open April to end September, daily 10am-6pm. October, daily 10am-4pm, last tour 3pm. Guided tours last 45 mins included in admission charge, last tour 5.15pm.

Disabled parking close to mill entrance; loose gravel in car park then gravel path to entrance. The upper floor is not accessible to wheelchair users but most of the tour is on the ground floor; Loose gravel paths and smooth grass in the gardens, and for visually impaired visitors there are Bobbins in all stages of manufacture to touch; wood smells and sounds of machinery in operation. Note: the workings of the mill are hazardous. Toilets are not adapted, but accessible to wheelchair users; ask for key in shop which has easy access. Snacks available and picnics welcome in grounds.

When this working mill was built in 1835 it was typical of the many mills in the Lake District which grew up to supply the spinning and weaving industry in Lancashire but have since disappeared. A remarkable opportunity to see a demonstration of the machinery and techniques of the Industrial Revolution.
