Storr Lochs - Portree

Portree

URPoint Details

The collective name for two small lochs which form a hydro-electric power reservoir on the Trotternish Peninsula of the Isle of Skye, comprise Loch Fada and Loch Leathan, 5 miles (8 km) north northeast of Portree. They collect a series of small streams and their outflow falls steeply to the north into Bearreraig Bay, via the Storr Lochs Power Station. Their level was raised by a dam to create the reservoir in 1950-52. Popular for their recreational fishing, the elderly mountaineer Norman Collie (1859 - 1942) died after developing pneumonia having fallen into the Storr Lochs during a fishing expedition.
