Nearby Stoke Park, now the home of Stoke Poges Golf Club was built for John Penn, grandson of William Penn of Pennsylvania, and landscaped by Capability Brown in 1771, and again by Repton in 1790.
Also famous for the ‘Elegy in a Country Churchyard’, written by Gray, who is buried in the churchyard.
