Famous for the Potteries, the town was created by merging six towns - those of Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Fenton and Longton in 1910.
Some of the celebrated potters were Wedgewood, Spode and Royal Doulton
The Elizabethan, half-timber manor house of Ford Green Hall in Ford Green Road is the oldest in the city dating from 1580.
