Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the village set by the River Wylye has changed little and still has lovely thatch cottages and a fine Elizabethan farmhouse complete with a great barn.
Stockton House is a beautiful Elizabethan house built by John Topp, he also built the charming almshouses.
The Church of St John the Baptist originally Norman is mainly 14th century, with a Norman font and some fine monuments to Topp and his family. The nave and chancel are divided by a thick wall, pierced by a door and two squints. The church was recorded as Grade I listed in 1968
