Stirling - (Sruighlea)

A famous old Royal Burgh known as the 'Gateway to the Highlands' and situated on of the many loops of the River Forth and remains of the original burgh gate can still be seen.

The Battle of Stirling Bridge fought in 1297 in which Wallace defeated the Earl of Surrey and is thought to have taken place near where the old wooden bridge was a little upstream.

There are several 17th century buildings including the Tolbooth from 1701, the Mercat Cross, and Darnley's House associated with James VI and his son.
