URPoint Details
Sitting amongst open farmland, this was a small market town until 1946, when it became a designated New Town. Visit the quaint 'old town' with its pubs, restaurants and shops.
In the old town centred round the broad main street with its avenues of horse chestnuts and lime trees are some lovely old cottages and houses.
To the south are the Barrows of Six Hills, believed to have been built in Roman times for burial purposes.
The Church of St Nicholas dates from the 12th century and built of flint with a low Norman tower and leaded spire. The roof, screens and stalls are 15th century, but the font is 13th century. There are screens between the aisles and chapels, chancel and chapels and nave and chancel. The choir seats are decorated with misericords.
