The parish is characterised by undulating scenery and beautiful woodlands. The village contains the magnificent 17th-century Stanway House, with its beautiful gatehouse and cricket pavilion stands on staddle stones. Nearby are the ruins of Hailes Abbey, once a celebrated place of pilgrimage, which was built in 1246 by Richard, Earl of Cornwall, son of King John, in thanksgiving for having escaped shipwreck.
