Stansted Mountfitchet - Mountfitchet Castle

Open mid March to mid November daily 10am to 5pm.   

Mountfitchet Castle is one of the most historic sites in Essex. The only re-constructed Norman wooden Motte and Bailey Castle and village of 1066 in the world. It was formerly a Roman fort, then a Saxon and Viking settlement before being captured by William the Conqueror.
