Stanstead Abbots - Church of St James

Cappell Lane, Stanstead Abbots SG12 8BX, England

URPoint Details

The Church of St James (Churches Conservation Trust), sitting a mile from the village, is a picturesque hilltop church dating from the 12th to 16th centuries, and was largely ignored by the Victorians, so remains marvellously unspoiled. The 15th century timbered porch is notable. Inside are rows of Georgian box pews, a three decker pulpit, texts, hatchments, old glass and monuments of many periods.
