Stanford on Avon

Stanford on Avon

URPoint Details

A little village is divided by the River Avon between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

The old church has a pinnacled 15th century tower, carved roof beams, 15th century screenwork, old glass and monuments. The organ apparently left behind by Cromwell.

Near the river is a monument to Percy Pilcher, a pioneer of flying, who was killed near here in an accident in 1899.

Stanford Hall, across the Leicestershire border is a notable Queen Anne mansion.
