Stairway to Heaven - Hatton Locks

The longest flight of locks on the Grand Union Canal has the famous 'Stairway to Heaven' with 21 locks. Built around 1800, the flight extends for 2 miles and lowers narrowboats 146ft in the descent to Warwick. Each lock holds 50,000 gallons of water.

You can watch the fascinating locks being worked as a succession of brilliantly decorated boats gently wend their way up and down.
