The town grew up around a priory founded in AD974, and took its name from Saint Neot, a 9th century Cornish Saint to whom the priory was dedicated.
Oliver Cromwell and Benedictine Monks are part of the varied history of this former coaching town, which now envelops the villages of Eynesbury and Eaton Socon.
Eynesbury was once in Bedfordshire and settled in the Bronze Age.
The church of St Mary dates 15th century built of the Perpendicular style and has a 130ft high tower, a local landmark.
The stone bridge built in 1648 was the site where the battle of the Royalists and the Roundheads took place. Trail exploring the old market town and to view Brook House and the 16th century Freemans building.
Priory (ruins). The Priory was founded by Benedictine monks and built in 1050.
