St Monans (saint-moan-anz)
A charming little fishing port with charming old houses clustered near the water’s edge.
A beautiful little 14th century church stands almost on the foreshore and was built by David II, and has a model of a three-masted ship hanging from one of the transept roofs.
On the cliffs to the southwest stands the ruins of the 17th century Newark Castle. The castle was once the home of General Leslie, the Covenanter who won the Battle of Philhaugh near Selkirk but was later defeated by Cromwell in the Battle of Dunbar.
St Monans - the locals call it saint mimms, after the saint
