Founded in the 1100s, a triumph of 14th and 15th century architecture with a crown spire that has dominated the skyline for over 500 years.

The church of John Knox during the Reformation, contains memorials to many great Scots, including the great Covenanting leaders Montrose and Argyll, Robert Louis Stevenson and Robert Burns.

There are fine Victorian and 20th century stained glass and a magnificent modern organ.

The Thistle Chapel was designed by Lorimer and is a jewel of Scottish craftsmanship.
