URPoint Details
Church of St Anthony (Churches Conservation Trust). The church stands behind Place House, looking across the creek to St Mawes, and is unusual in surviving in its 13th century form without later additions, despite a thorough 19th century restoration. The ingenious 1850 restoration was carried out by Rev.C W Carlyon a cousin of the Sprys of Place House whose monuments over three centuries are in the north tracept, being an amateur architect he designed many of the furnishings. The fine Norman south doorway may have come from Plympton Priory.
