The ruins of the castle of the Archbishops of St Andrews, date in part from the 13th century.

Notable features include a 'bottle dungeon', mine and counter mine tunnelled during the siege that followed the murder of Cardinal Beaten in 1546.

The dungeon is hollowed out of solid rock, from which death was the only way out.
