The Church of St Cuthbert replaces an old wooden structure. The west tower and spire from around 1740. The church was enlarged in the 19th century. One interesting feature is a wall monument by Nollekens of around 1791 showing carved scientific instruments. There is an 18th century font and a fine early 18th century wood carved reredos and panels) taken from the demolished Church of St Peter in Liverpool).
