URPoint Details

The green alongside the road running through the village has a sign depicting the two church towers, a windmill, a Viking and his ship.

There are two churches here in one churchyard. That of St Lawrence is mainly Perpendicular was burnt in 1827 and only the ruined tower and restored chancel remain. St Mary’s church is Decorated and perpendicular with a lovely two-storeyed porch and a screen and bench-ends dating from the 15th century.

Through the different periods of history the churches have stood side by side for over seven centuries. In 1827, fire destroyed most of the church of St Lawrence. St Mary’s church was almost entirely reconstructed in the 14th century and stands proudly beside the remains of St Lawrence’s church.
