URPoint Details
Suitable access for disabled visitors.
Museum, large grounds, picnic area, steam collection, play area, maze and free car park.
There are special events held throughout the year. The Steam Train of the South Devon Railway link the historic towns of Totnes with the popular tourist centres of Buckfastleigh and Buckfast Abbey on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.
Running for seven miles along the east bank of the beautiful River Dart, the line traverses some of Devon's most glorious scenery. This fast flowing salmon river has its origins high up on Dartmoor and becomes tidal just outside Totnes, near the station. Wildlife abounds in and around both river and railway with herons, swans. Badgers, foxes and kingfishers are just some of those to be seen.
Combine a nostalgic trip behind a steam locomotive along a branch line of the legendary Great Western Railway with a chance to view at leisure an almost inaccessible part of the countryside.
The 'Totnes Link' footpath enables you to visit either Totnes or Buckfastleigh, without adding to road congestion. Why not complete you day out by joining a 'Red Cruiser' in Totnes for a leisurely sail down the river to Dartmouth.
