Soulton Hall - Wem

Soulton Hall - Wem

WEM SY4 5RS, England

URPoint Details

Fascinating Country Manor House with walled garden and set in 550 acres of oak woodland. This delightful hall has a long and interesting history, indeed. The Manor of Suelton features in the Domesday Book of 1086 and the site of the original moated castle or fortified manor house may still be seen near by. Soulton Hall itself is built of Tudor brick and incorporates an older house containing timbers which may well have been taken from the earlier building. Rowland Hill, the first Protestant Lord mayor of London, bought Soulton in 1556. It was his descendant, Thomas Hill, a High Sheriff of Shropshire, who in 1668 placed his marital coat of arms above the front door.

Ideally located for touring, with private riverside and woodland walks, fishing, riding and bird watching are added attractions to a relaxing break.

Rooms on the ground floor is available in both cottages and the Carriage House and Soulton Court; All doors in Soulton Court are wide enough for wheelchairs;

Special rates apply for winter breaks.

Located south of Whitchurch on B5476 and north of Shrewsbury on A528 turning right onto B5476 at Harmer Hill.
