In the east of the district where fenlands and orchards meet, Somersham is an attractive village.
The Early English church of St John the Baptist is an interesting and impressive building home of the Bishops of Ely but nothing now survives of their former palace.
The village has grown in recent years and outdoor amenities include a bowling green football and recreation grounds. There are several pubs in the village, three of them situated at the main cross-roads.
