Little has changed in the village where Tennyson lived and played, the cottages and houses mostly hidden away among the woods and along narrow winding lanes.
Opposite the church is a battlemented house said to have been built in the 18th century by Sir John Vanbrugh, the designer of Blenheim Palace.
