Car park: exhibitions and shop. Joint ticket for all Orkney monuments. Disabled car park about 1½ miles from Skara Brae but access across local farmer's field can be arranged in advance. Some external interpretation boards at sales point and on monument are accessible. Over half the site is accessible stone steps restrict access in other areas wheelchair visitors should be accompanied.
Uncovered by a storm in 1850, Skara Brae is one of the best-preserved groups of Stone Age houses in Western Europe. The houses contain stone furniture, hearths and drains and present a remarkable picture of life in Neolithic times. The setting of Skara Brae is magnificent with the sound of seabirds and the sea.
