Sir Winston Churchill was born at Blenheim on 30 November 1874. He was Prime Minister three times during the Second World War 1940-1945, he returned in 1948-1954, and again in 1951-1955. He is acknowledged as one of Britain's greatest leaders and historical figures -- but that was surely in his breeding. The Churchill name has appeared over many centuries at key times and in prime positions of influence in English history in spheres as diverse as political leadership, monarchical advisers and academia. Sir Winston Churchill himself also remains one of the most popular writers and historians of all time. He is best known for his six-volume series, Second World War, for which he prepared by saving masses of diary notes and transcribed official documents throughout the War. It is a much revered work, Churchill being the only major leader of the era to record this history. Roosevelt, Stalin, Mussolini and Hitler had no such passion for recording history as Churchill, who was known to remark that he could perceive much of the future because he would draw from historical experience.
