Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet, OM GCVO was born 2 June 1857 in the village of Broadheath. He was an English composer whose famous ‘The Enigma Variations’ in 1899 and ‘Pomp and Circumstance Marches’ in 1901 just two of his famous works. His father ran a music shop at the end of High Street and a statue of Elgar stands near the original location of that shop.

He died 23 February 1934 and is buried in St Wulstan’s churchyard in Malvern Wells.
