Shoreham-by-Sea

Shoreham-by-Sea , England

URPoint Details

The town dates from Roman times and a ship building port since the 14th century.
The harbour is always busy with boats of all shapes and sizes.

A popular seaside resort and an ancient town, the original part, called Old Shoreham and lying to the north of the main centre, established by the South Saxons in the 5th century. The modern town is separated from the sea by the River Adur, the harbour, and a long spit of land known as Shoreham Beach.

The extensive beach is shingle, but there is good and safe swimming.

The Parish Church of St Nicholas, located near the old wooden toll-bridge in Old Shoreham has some Anglo-Saxon and Norman work and the building was much restored in 1840.
