URPoint Details
The village takes its name from the Old English meaning ‘for a bright clearing’.
The brick and stone cottages cluster about the junction of the many lanes in this pleasant part of the county.
The chancel and the south aisle of the parish church of St Michael date from the 14th century, but the rest including the tower were rebuilt in the 19th century.
A yew tree in the churchyard has a trunk of 17ft in girth.
