There were once about 20 inns along the one mile village street and as the story goes, when workers were paid on a Saturday they could be drunk before reaching home.
There used to be a horse drawn fire engine and according to legend that one night a pub caught fire and one of the firemen trying to save the beer from the burning inn fell off his ladder and broke a leg and arm.
