URPoint Details
A busy town where railway wagons were built and remains of the original workshops stand nearby. The first steam train to carry both passengers and goods ran from here.
Timothy Hackworth, the builder of an early locomotive, ‘The Royal George’ who died in 1850, lived at Soho House, where a bronze plaque carrying a picture of the train can be seen.
